Understanding hourly care
Hourly home care, also known as visiting or domiciliary care, means a trained carer attends at agreed times to help with the parts of the day that have become difficult, and leaves the rest of the day to you. It is the arrangement that allows many people across Surrey, to remain safely in their own homes.
Recognise the signs
Few people ask for help themselves. Families are usually the first to notice the small changes in how a parent is managing. Where several of the following are familiar, it is reasonable to begin a conversation about hourly care at home.
Families often wait longer than they need to, and a manageable situation becomes an urgent one. A few hours of care each week at this stage can prevent a far larger decision later. Our guide to the signs a loved one needs home care sets this out in more detail.
A typical morning visit
Every visit follows the agreed care plan. A typical morning hour is unhurried and ordered around the routines your relative already keeps.
The same carer arrives at the agreed time. The curtains are opened, the kettle goes on, and the visit begins without any sense of hurry.
A wash or shower and help with dressing, carried out with patience, privacy and dignity, at your relative's own pace.
Breakfast is prepared, morning medication is prompted or administered exactly as the care plan sets out, and there is time to talk through the day ahead.
The kitchen is left tidy, visit notes are recorded, and the family receives an update, so relatives always know how the morning went.
What's included
Every visit follows your personalised care plan. Typical support includes the following.
A dignified, unhurried start to the day.
Fresh, home-cooked meals prepared to your taste.
Reminders, prompts and prescription collection.
Groceries, post office, pharmacy runs.
Laundry, tidying, keeping the home comfortable.
Conversation, shared interests, a friendly face.
Support to get out and about safely.
Staying mobile, active and confident.
A safe, settled end to the evening.

The Aims difference
Continuity is central to good hourly home care. You are matched with one carer, or with a small and consistent team, who come to know your routines, your preferences and your history.
Who it's for
Two visits a week is a measured first step: practical help, without any loss of independence.
When washing, cooking or medication are a struggle, regular daily visits keep life running smoothly and safely.
Visits are arranged around what the family already provides, so that caring does not become unsustainable.

Who comes to your door
Inviting a carer into your home, or into a parent's home, requires trust. Every Aims carer completes the following before a first visit.
Every carer completes an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service background check before they ever set foot in a customer's home.
We follow up every reference personally, speaking to previous employers, not just filing paperwork.
We recruit for temperament first. Practical skills can be taught; patience and genuine kindness cannot, so those qualities decide who we appoint.
Our NVQ pathway plus first aid, manual handling and medication training, before care begins and refreshed regularly.
Regular supervision and spot checks led by our Registered Manager, so standards never slip once care is under way.
If your carer is unwell, a trained colleague who has been briefed on your care plan attends instead, so a scheduled visit is not missed.
Every Aims carer is carefully recruited, fully trained and regularly supervised, and you will meet your own carer before hourly care begins.
